‘In the Garden’ is a ‘one off’ artist book, a drum leaf binding with four double spreads. The relief prints were added to the cyanotype background, and hand pulled on the huge press at Digswell Arts.

Drum leaf binding, development of which is credited to Tim Ely, has features in common with both Eastern and western binding methods. This adhesive binding is very like a child’s board book, it allows for double spread openings with no sewing threads interrupting the image and it opens out completely flat allowing the image to spread across both pages..

There is digital text on the front opening page of this book using words from an old hymn made popular by many singers including Elvis Presley, “I come to the Garden Alone”
